See how a backyard hockey rink is built from start to finish. In this video, you’ll see the processes of leveling for a rink, installing boards, lining the rink, filling it with water, maintaining the rink, and finally skating on the rink. Building a backyard rink is a lot of fun and well worth all the hard work and time it takes. I used a kit from Nicerink to help speed up the process and make it easier. When I was a little kid, one of the men in the neighborhood used a giant piece of heavy plastic, a bunch of concrete blocks, a bunch of 2x4s and he built a skating rink in his back yard and then invited everyone on the block to come over and skate. Someone brought over an old record player and a stack of 45โs (it was a long time ago!) so we could skate to music. He eventually put up some poles with work lights attached on the top which it made skating at night much safer. It was so much fun, and is one of my favorite childhood memories. Every once in a while, I run into the manโs wife and this is one of the topics that we reminisce about.
Your rink is far more work than what we had at the neighborโs house! Iโll bet everyone that comes to use your rink right now will have great memories in 50 years like I do!
Pete you got off on this rink.
Wow! So awesome to see it come together! Wishing I lived in a colder climate but once I do, this is Project 1!
so, do you have a mini zamboni?
Awesome ๐๐ช๐ผ๐
awsome, that is great, have fun and keep the sticks on the ice
a 'point of use' water heater could have been a better choice than running hose from the house… they're portable and run on propane. They call them tankless water heaters. Either way, good job on the rink, looks fun.
I'd love to do this some day. Thanks for the video!

WOW! Now thats a DIY hockey rink! NIce job! nicest one ive ever seen! Im scared to ask how much it cost you, but i will guess around 5k?
Well done, looks incredible! ๐๐ฅ
Good job man! Who is from Kazakhstan? I see the flag ๐
thats really cool wish i was there to have fan
Dude thatโs awesome! I live in Georgia though so it looks like I have to continue to drive to the rink!
Another awesome job Pete, keep up the great work! P.S. that view is incredible!!
Looks great! Instead of running all that hose you should run a freeze proof hydrant out to the rink next summer.
Easily one of the coolest DIYs Iโve ever seen. Great work, Pete!
My father built a rink in the back yard from scrap lumber in the mid-80's. You might try imbedding some waterproof led lights into the ice.
Can I come over?
This is 100% why I want to get the hell out of the high population density city I'm currently in (New York City) and move to a place with space. Granted, I'm likely moving to Austin so there won't be an ice rink but still, the idea is there.
Nice, if you need music let me know , I just release my album (Cinematic/Film]
Great job Pete. I never heard of people having a rink in their yard. One thing, turn the US flag around, the field should be on the left when hanging vertically. Enjoy.
Great video Pete, by far my favourite you've done. My dad and I just finished putting together our backyard rink yesterday, and it got me wondering when the update video on your rink would come out. Funny timing!
This is amazing! Pete you're a treasure! I love your videos!
Im still not used to you not saying measure like you normally do haha
