50 bucks p ‘ lineal foot pretty and pricey.

Mark Myers says:

What is the manufacturer of the decking material?

Straight Whitemale says:

What did that glass cost?

Refuso Againo says:

Frost near a house is less because of heat loss to the ground from the basement. (Older houses, nothing I'd build now would do that) A mistake sometimes made, was to build a deck and enjoy it for a few years, then renovate the basement for more space, and upgrading the insulation. Next year, you need a new deck, because one end lifted 9" or worse and more common, the footings crack.

Refuso Againo says:

In the '80s I had a three man crew (including myself) that could build a "BBQ" -ready, Western Red Cedar deck in a day. A new subdivision had the same back yard 180 times. Roll back the sod, prepare the ground, and build the entire thing from 2×6's. One or two 2×10's were brought for the railing, the extra width lends it strength in any long straight section. We never put two pieces together, they are always separated by their own width, (1 1/2") except for the vertical posts which are 3 pcs ganged together, with the center piece reaching 5 1/2 " taller to form two shoulders, for the main beam to sit on, which is two more 2×6's, now sitting on shoulders and separated by the center vertical piece of each/any post.
The posts sit on a 4" cement block or a 2'x2' concrete walkway pad. Those are insulated from frost penetration by sitting them on a piece of Styrofaom SM 2" thick. The ground underneath is graded after those pads are trowelled level, into place. Then covered with black plastic and crushed stone, or bark etc.. I would often wrap the whole deck frame in a 2"x8" trimmer joist, set level with the top of the decking as a frame. All the decking is inset 3/8" by cutting it, before hand. Weatherproof screws only, all "looking up" slightly so rain drips out of and not into them. The minimal end grain exposed (the 2×6 top of the center piece of the post) is protected permanently. Tar, smeared silicon etc..
Frost goes down 6' or more in those low land, clay soils, it's penetration is directly related to the moisture content of the ground. Get the ground cover right, and you'll have no water getting to the ground under the deck, to assist frost protection or feed things sill able to grow.

HORRIBLE DESIGN. NO HANDRAIL AT STEPS, YOU LEFT A RAW GLASS EDGE AT THE TOP FOR PPL TO GRAB AND CUT THEMSELVES GOING UP OR DOWN THE STAIRS, AS WELL AS RAW GLASS EXPOSED EDGES ON THE DECK, IDIOTS.
IDIOTS USED SCREWS TO HOLD HUGE 6X6 OR 8X8 POSTS, OF COURSE IT IS WOBBLY.
DEF. NOT TO BUILDING CODES, OR EVEN PRACTICAL. JUST STUPID IDIOTS, SCREWS IN HIS MOUTH,

sandiabill1 says:

The only thing I would have added is a round or even squaring piece on top the glass as well as the glass on the steps. That would us minimize hand prints on the top edge and inch or two of the glass. Just cut the width of the glass, use a little glue and slip it on. I may very “borrow” your ideas for my very own deck, I liked it that much. Thank you sir, you made it educational and very easy to follow along. Great job gentlemen, thank you!

Perimeter is pronounced PER-RIM-ATER

Mike Wilhelmson says:

Composite decking companies need to come up with a solution for unfinished edges besides cladding.

redseasplitter says:

How about something kid friendly? My future kids would break the glass in an instant even if it was a foot thick and bullet proof

halley0413 9837 says:

I love the look and specially the feel of the privacy wall but I don't trust the glass or the way you put it on. I would like a header to cap the glass plates on the top.

FMcrow020 says:

great job! I like how well you explained everything. I feel like i could do this just from watching the video

cavtj1 says:

Interesting design. Looks like you know what you are doing. Never heard the word 'perimeter' & 'composite' pronounced like that before. Had to listen several times to figure out what you were saying. Is there enough room between the planks for drainage? They look pretty tight. Thanks for posting.

Jordan Guth says:

Looks great! My only question is are the posts secured to the beams by deck anything?

David H. Dudek says:

The stairs are made to kill. Did you guys ever heard something about constructive weather protection? Hope I’m the one n only German carpenter who saw this. Nice hobby 😆

M eh says:

Liked what you've done very much! Gonna keep this in mind and if it is something I can build at my new house, I'll. The crawl space is also perfect for garden tools 😄

Dariusz Kucharczyk says:

Why are stairs so stained with some white shit?
Why the railing on the stairs does not have a grip?

den d says:

this may or may not have turned out great but I can't make it past the first minute…..Dude,if you are a pro,I'll eat my hat…come on, trying to use a makita track saw to cut the post….and that skippy little adjustable square to mark out the joist….but hey, you could be a top notch DIYer….I will never know!!! good luck !!….!and hey, maybe you could make it onto an episode of this old house!!!…..I don't mean to be mean really… just sarcastic and humor you and others like you who are on youtube doing their silly thing getting 15 minutes of fame..

На стекла надо неклеить металлизированную плёнку чтоб меньше было видно снаружи, и перила обязательно надо, удобней будет облакатиться и сама конструкция будет прочней. Хорошо получилось.👍✋
