If you want a cheap diy spot welder for tabbing, use an old 1kva microwave oven xfmr.
Hack out the HV winding and replace with 2 turns of heavy gauge welding cable attached to the copper tabbing electrodes ( weld tips)
Make a timer and relay combo ( 1/2 to 2 seconds variable for heat) and use it to momentarily activate the primary from the line.
A foot switch as the trigger for the timer frees your hands to position the tabbing electrodes.
Voltage on the secondary is only about 2 volts AC so no shock hazard.

always wanted to convert a motorcycle but the battery boxes always seemed ugly, bluky, and too heavy. custom battery pack like these you can tuck into any shape and ditribute weight more evenly. this might be the way to go.
