Stinger Communications says:

CNET better get new researchers! Everyone should share this information on your FB. Alarm companies are not experts in your security! If they try to convince you that monitoring a camera on your phone is a good thing. Let me ask you this. What good is it when your across town and you see two burglars wearing a two dollar disguise in your home? You can't recognize them and all you've done is surrender your rights to privacy when any two bit hacker can look in your home!! What good is it for your alarm system to call a monitoring station, in Kansas? All they can do is call police for you, and by the time they go through the five man relay team and an officer actually shows up at your home or business. Criminals have done their dirty deed and are long gone with your property. How many of you have every got your property back? Lets just say the odds of winning the lottery are better. When you want better than the so called best. YOU NEED ME! If you don't care, then you will when you become the next victim. How do I know? With more than 30 years in the industry. That's then only time you care and call. AFTER YOU BECOME THE NEXT VICTIM! Times are tough but, they are only getting ready to get tougher!

Penny Royal says:

This system is okay. The problem is if your internet stops for one second the cameras go offline. To reset them you need to physically reset them. The service was excellent in the beginning but now it isn't so.

Free Thinker says:

All these cameras are great for "in home" what about outside? Doorbell, and Cold weather/rain?

John Smith says:

holy 60 fps. Am i in the future ?

scottp104 says:

I love CNET but you really should have a person who actually knows about security systems to actually review it. Your #1 Viper looks like a stand alone device that sits on a table. If someone breaks in and hears the 105db siren, what would stop them from picking it up and smashing it into a million pieces? False sense of security from my experience.

Joao Escorcio says:

you shitheads should google DIY

Bill Phan says:

The monthly fee for SimplySafe is actually OPTIONAL!!!!!

Rophoenix says:

Piper is the one for me….thanks!

Rosy Jones says:

this stuff sucks.. this isn't DIY, it's GoAndBuy

Tommy Touch says:

Its not really home security if the system does not dial to 911, it is simply a home monitoring system. Protect America is offering up to $1,400 in free hardware and only $19.99 per month. I called (855-753-2703) and switched over and am happy with the customer service and the system I got. Over the next few years it may add up to more than a DIY system, but I sleep good at night knowing my kids are safe.

Thanks for the Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about – Mahorrla Defence Wisdom Method (google it)? It is a good one of a kind guide for securing your home from danger without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my best friend Jordan  got cool results with it.

pagamenews says:

I tried a wireless security system in my home.  It didn't work!  The alarm kept going off for absolutely no reason.  I think there might have been too much interferance with the other gadgets running in my house.  I finally went with a DIY hardwired alarm system.  It works perfectly and I think I spent about $400 in total for a system with 3 massive sirens that would wake the neighbors a mile away.

Alarm Reviews says:

DIY security systems seem to be very popular and no reason not to be if you are comfortable as a user installing them.  As long as you go with someone who can service you Nationally (if you ever move) then it is a great option but majority still like to have it professionally installed.  At http://alarm-reviews.net you can see who we chose as the top 5 alarm systems and companies.

Paul Novello says:

monitoring of these systems is what provides security not cameras

Alex Martinez says:

Where is Fortress which in my opinion is the BEST Alarm system out there.

Simone Johnson says:

gosh if you cant afford to pay $20 a month for a security system monitoring fee you obviously have nothing worth stealing in your home.

squishyroo says:

Deft Gear says:

Does a fully automatic turret based on an arduino with a webcam and an ehernet shield counts as an DIY security system?

Cristian Alexander says:

I'll lean towards the Piper option

Rising Zun says:

> Talks about DIY
> None of the solutions are truly DIY

nice title bait

James Wallis says:

Better alternative for free is to get an old android phone or iPhone and install IP Webcam onto it (Leave it on charge) , then you can watch the feed online wherever you've got internet connection.

Vic Singh says:
