12'x24' DIY Shed Build (Part 5 – Wall Sheathing)

12'x24' DIY Shed Build (Part 5 – Wall Sheathing)

Welcome to part 5 of our shed build showing the wall sheathing installation. In this video we show the sheathing of the walls with 4’x8’ OSB (oriented strand board) sheets. We were able to use full sheets on the front (tall) wall, but had to cut them down to about 6’ 6” on the back (short) wall. For the sides, each sheet had to be cut to match the slope of the roof. To finish up this portion, we cut out the window openings.

This will be a 12’x24′ wooden shed with a single slope metal roof and LP SmartSide siding.

I’ll try to summarize some of the construction stats/key points here:

– 12′ x 24′
– 4′ x 4′ treated skid foundation
– 2″ x 8″ joists @ 16″ OC
– 3/4″ plywood subfloor

– 2″ x 4″ construction with double top plates
– (3) 3′ x 2′ sliding windows
– DIY double door – 59” x 80”
– 1/2″ OSB sheathing
– House wrap
– LP SmartSide paneling

– 16′ x 27′
– 1.5-in-12 pitch (minimum recommended by metal roof mfr), single slope
– 2″ x 8″ rafters @ 24″ OC
– 1/2″ plywood sheathing, with sheathing clips
– Synthetic roofing paper
– 29 gauge galvalume metal roofing panels (3′ x 16′ each)

Hi Brian and Pam…Nice progress, love to see builds. Critters might "move in" under your floors. i have experience with that, steel mesh helps.

double check this info,, but if you are NOT going to insulate the ceiling you don't need to have a ventilated soffit.. It is going to be a shed, correct.? so it won't be an airtight building..

Green Dream Project says:

The build is looking good Brian. I never heard of softfit before. I'll just be shoving mud between our roof and walls.😆👍

Gareth Bretton says:

this is great! really enjoyed watching, keep them coming 🙂

High Desert Homestead says:

You can run the soffit all the way except on the sides. You will need additional frame work to nail the soffit to. If not it will sag.

The Arizona Homestead Project says:

Looks great Brian. A router works great for cutting your openings. The soffit approach is your best option at this point. I'm really enjoying watching this build
