Hey Guys! So let’s take a quick look at what I believe was a fantastic purchase from only having the gym for about three weeks.

How long did it take to build a home gym?
I recommend that everyone look at construction guides for the products they buy. I’m not going to do a construction guide on the things I got because most likely everyone is going to get different equipment. I will do a how easy was it to build out of 5 for fun and my general issue I have had while creating it.

How long did it take to build?
It took about 3 weeks to totally finish the gym with work a couple hours each weekend. You could totally get it done in three days if you had all the materials you need. For me, it took a couple of days before I could get the squat rack up and going because I needed someone to hold the frame while I put it together. The DIY deadlift platform I did also take the most time because I needed to uses a friend’s 4×4 truck and stain/glue the wood together. One tip that I will give right now is if you are going to put a rubber floor down, put it in a spot that is easy for you to vacuum.

The reason I say that is my horse stall mats were not purchased from tractor supply co, but instead from the same location, I bought my rack from. They had the mats without the smell that apparently occurs for a few weeks upon putting them in your house. So it may be wise to put it near a Windsor also to allow for better airflow. The rubber will start to break away as you lift weights on it but don’t fret its not a lot.

The Home GYM List

The main 5 things I wanted for my home gym at my budget were a 1) Full squat rack 2) 500+ rated barbell 3) 350 pounds of weight 4) boxing stand + bag 5) DIY Deadlift platform. My budget for this project was 1200 Canadian dollars so your mileage may vary. Now, what did I get for my budget?

The Squat Rack – 84” black Full rack
Barbell – generic 700lb capacity bar came in a deal with the weights
Bench – SteelBody Flat bench ( 500lb rated capacity)
4 layers of ¾ inch rubber flooring
Everlast Heavy Bag stand + 80 lb bag
Wood Gymnastics rings
DIY Deadlift Platform

It’s no surprise to anyone that unfortunately I went passed by budget by about 300 bucks. To compensate I sold on my local marketplace old games and things around the house I no longer needed. I even started to buy and sell older computers and clean / restore then and mark them up. I recommend if you can just get all the gym equipment in one go. If you keep looking up home gym videos like I did, then you know subconsciously that you want a home gym. So be smart and work within your budget but also know when to splurge for a good deal.

If you see a full squat rack that has an 800 lb capacity for 400 Canadian bucks get it! Don’t sacrifice the 50 to 100 dollars to get a half rack with half the size. A full frame offers a lot of flexibility in a workout because you can add things like gymnastics rings to it! You can do dips in a squat rack for way less money than a dip station by just getting a set of 40 dollar rings on Amazon.

There are a lot of areas you can save money on in a home gym, but you’re going to end up spending more money if you buy twice. So if you see a good deal on a product, you need to go for it because you will regret it more if you have to purchase twice.
