Hey found your video after searching for advice on painting my kitchen / bathroom cabinets. They are all mdf/ particle board. They are a beige colour and I'm looking to paint them a light gray. Do you recommend sanding everything with 150 grit paper or steel wool? And how many layers of primer? Thanks so much

Ahmad Ali says:

Great video! I was wondering during it, what are your thoughts on using one of those electric spray paint guns?

David L says:

Thanks for the videos Jeff. Would be great to see one done with hvlp sprayer which is easy enough to buy or rent.

dbates46 says:

Thank for talking about determining the oil based vs water based at the beginning. 99% of these YouTube videos just show the guy sanding then painting

Rebeca Lee says:

Hi Jeff, my husband and I love your videos. I wish we would have watched your how to paint video BEFORE we painted our bathrooms and spare room but live & learn πŸ™‚

I really like the look of the gel stain on kitchen cabinets I've been seeing all over YouTube. Prep work wise I know we need to follow a similar plan to painting, remove the doors & hardward, clean, sand, etc. Have you used the gel stain, how does it stand up over time? Is it forgiving for amateurs or will it be obvious that it was a diy job? We have 1990s builder grade honey oak cabinets.

Your videos are great, I subscribed a short while ago because I was browsing youtube for renovation tips and tutorials, and found your channel. I plan on buying my own apartment in the next few years and wanted to get a head start on learning about renovating everything. What made me like your vids is that you clearly care about doing things properly, not taking shortcuts that would lower the quality of your work, and you are knowledgeable on the subject. That's the type of person I like to learn from. Keep it up, I hope that as your channel (and your company) grows you will maintain your good values πŸ™‚ Peace!

How fun – first thing I notice is the Hedwig mug in the background – Harry Potter Fans! ;D Thanks for the video – I'm about to tackle this so it's great to touch on.

superpac1966 says:

Such a calm personality. Kept thinking you were going to pull out your fan brush and paint a happy little tree.

Arjun Bangalore says:

Once you finish the final touch coat, is there a way to get a shiny, sealer coat so that it is much easier to clean the oil deposits of cooking? Also did you use the Dulux primer for all the coats or did you change to a paint after the first coat? Thanks.

Willy Drucker says:

Great stuff Jeff! Looking to redo our rustic 70's (but nice solid wood) cabinets. For a very contemporary look, is there anything you would recommend to fill in the grain of the wood to make the cabinets look more smooth before painting?

Rochelle Grey says:

How I wish my home were in the Ottawa area! Great video as usual

mimi maliar says:

Can you make video on how to use cheap spray painter? We didn't have very good result and I wonder if it's lack of practice or technique.

Kevin Kepa says:

Amazing how paint make such a difffence !

misterwong1986 says:

Anybody else play these videos just for background noise? Dont get me wrong, these great videos and are very informative. Please consider becoming a teacher/instructor later in your career. Very calm and respectful voice! Keep it up

Demitri Baskin says:

Thank you, just what we needed.

Charlotte Tyus says:

I recently painted my cabinets. The process was a little time consuming. I actually put the cabinet number in the recess for the hinge and put a small piece of painters tape on the hinge with the corresponding cabinet number. I also made a post note and posted it on the wall with how the cabinets were numbered(left to right and upper/lower). For the drawer fronts, I put the number on the back right in the middle so that it would be covered by the drawer box when they were reattached. I was able to use an airless painter sprayer in my basement to do the painting. I love how my cabinets came out.

Troupster says:

Love your videos but you don't always get that before and after shot at the end which feels super important.

Please please please try and get those nice wide angle before and after shots on your projects because it really puts into perspective how beautiful the work is.

Thanks 🎈

roblox maniac danceand shake says:

This channels shows are soooooooooo comprehensive…. Makes one feel like an expert after….

SandiRose27 says:

I did not know those hinges were quick release. I jumped right up and went into my kitchen and hey…. mine are NOT quick release! Oh well. I still learned something new! I always do!
By the way, did you have a cold during the first half of this video? Or have you been missing me? Don't cry, all you have to do is split some of these videos in half, then you'll have an extra video to share during the week and you won't have to be so upset. Or, you could just make more videos! I would watch them! And of course I'd have to comment! I know you'd love that! And couldn't Max use the practice? He doesn't just have great hair, he also has grand aspirations! There you go! Problem solved!
