DIY Clean ‘n Simple Gravel Landscaping – Part 1 of 2

DIY Clean ‘n Simple Gravel Landscaping – Part 1 of 2

Check out the clean ‘n simple makeover we did to the landscaping around our barn house. We got rid of all the old, over grown bushes, grass, & lava rock and replaced it with 1″ clean rock gravel and some simple, low maintenance, modern plants.

This is Part 1 where I show you how I got rid of the old lava rock, tore out the overgrown weeds, and re-graded the dirt to flow away from the house to prepare for new landscape edging, landscaping fabric, and gravel.

Nomad Wizard says:

No, landscape cloth is a scam use 2 layers of 8ml black poly.
Weeds will come thru, any seeds from mowing, or wind or even bird droppings will anchor in the cloth. A pain and u will end up with roots weaving themselves into the cloth. A nitemare to pull and never get rid of them if u do not remove all the roots, they just come back up. With the poly they can't anchor, so id they do root, they come out with 2 finger pull on then stem.
Pull the poly up at the edge of the grass and trim to the top of the grass. That prevents the grass from creeping into the rocks.

Think you did a great job! Good on you for working hard, saving money and creating an attractive clean front to your property.
If more folks got off their ass and did what your doing instead of making pathetic comments from their armchairs
It would be a better world.
Most men these days don't like to get their hands dirty, leave the sofa or break a sweat!
They'd hire someone ,or leave their yard looking like a dump. Good on you 😅

Sloping the grade away from house is a good idea to help with drainage. Accomplishing that by building the soil up around the foundation and in contact with the metal siding is not a good idea.

Nice video.

My company installs sprinklers for lawns. Please check out a video of a project right after installation.

Maybe I missed it in the video, but where did you pick up the aluminum edging?  It is relatively inexpensive or pricey?  I was thinking of doing this about my fence line so my dog wouldn't be quite as apt to dig out beneath the fence there. My fence pickets don't touch the ground at their bottoms and the aluminum edging as this may work okay if not too overly expensive. Is there a specific brand or name for the aluminum edging?  I have not seen such in the garden areas of the local box stores.
