Positive things first: Very good editing, nice diy.
but: Wood had already blue rot in it it seemed. Screws in the top are ugly. You could use a crossbeam from the underside, sure was thick enough. Did some of the "cup" point up? that would gather Water. To safe time you could try Spax High force Screws.
