For someone that’s never painted car parts before, it didn’t turn half bad. The paint job had it’s up’s and down’s, but for less than $100 I was able to rattle can some “decent” work!
The overall goal of spray painting the civic was to make it look better than before. Needless to say, anything would have looked better than how it was before. However, my goal was to have the paint match the color as good as possible, which was pure luck. The prep work with sanding was probably the most tedious part along with the using the bondo body filler. This video wasn’t meant to be a “how to spray paint car parts,” but just a honest civic vlog of the process. I used a combination of color matched paint from Amazon and Duplicolor paint from a local store to paint the car parts. I used 2k primer and a 2k clear coat to ensure the paint job would last a good while. My biggest mistake was not properly masking off the car paint taper to do the fade. But I’m hoping to fix that soon. Other than that, the spray paint blobs and spots weren’t ideal either.
Hopefully this video shows you some do’s and don’ts when spray painting a car or car parts and what hang ups to expect. It may not be the best spray paint job, but at least it’s all one color…sorta. Stay tuned for a reveal of the car and what it looks like after a few more mods and a detail!
