Car Audio in Your Home DIY 12V Power Supply Project

Use car audio amps and head units in your home! Check out this 53A 12V server power supply by Delta Electronics (DPS-1300BB) and how to easily make your own power supply. The tool box is optional, just makes everything cleaner. I also added a digital voltmeter to the box, but didn’t have any video and couldn’t find the pictures! I hope you enjoy this project.

Cost of components:
Delta DPS-1300BB Power Supply (eBay) – $20
Plastic Toolbox from Harbor Freight – $5
4GA/8GA distribution blocks (x2) – $15
10GA wire (10ft total, 12GA is sufficient) – $5
Binding Post terminal – $4
Various accessories (zip ties, spade connectors, solder, et) – $6
Total – approx $60

I used a Xbox 360 power brick and it was enough to power my car amplifier and car radio indoors

That's a cool portable ps idea!

They have 90 deg right spades and also why not make a bus bar to one larger primary wire instead of 4 wires- Geez

Ronnie Welsh says:

one question, if i bridge 2 together, will the voltage be 12 volts but amprage be higher?

Richard Ayala says:

how do you power the power supply?

Refuge Inc. says:

You definitely don't believe in 'attention to detail', eh? What a mess. And could you use a cheaper toolbox? Should have just spent $10 on MDF and make a real box.

Yaret Trejo says:

Good video…whenever you wire it to a battery would you need to fuse between battery and power supply? and also fuse from amp to battery?

Michael Smith says:

I gotta say i'm a big fan of your video's, especially amp dynos. Currently I have a Polk Audio PSW110, which came with a factory but after a few years of abuse failed me. So, i've removed the sub from the factory box and disconnected it from the factory amp. Now the sub is inverted in the factory ported box bridged to a planet audio AC1000.2. Amp is currently receiving 12v @ 16.5a from an old xbox 360 power supply, which works fine at 20-30% volume. Any higher and the amp demands more current than I can supply. I'm definitely going to look into building something like this for my set-up

Anthony Harris says:

hello, so I went on ebay and found the unit u have in your video but it set up differently than yours

Steven Dunn says:

Just a quick question. Why didn't you just create a bridge for the server to make just 1 wire go up to the lid?
