For those of us with the complex American Standard champion 4 flush valve (which requires tank removal to replace the entire valve), replacing the flapper ring may not solve the problem. This assembly has a cap which gets screwed down onto the flapper ring and MUST be screwed down to the final "click" (the screw is plastic and one might be shy about screwing it tight enough). Otherwise, ghost flushing may continue even though the replaced rubber flapper ring solved the initial problem. Until the cap screws down tight enough, the ghost flushing may have a new repair-induced cause leading the DIY homeowner to think the whole flapper unit must be laboriously replaced. As a frustrated DIY person, I found this out as above and after I re-Googled rare causes of "ghost flushing" with the American Standard Champion 4 toilet (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1106AFWSTDP70/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B002J3SG0W#R1106AFWSTDP70).
We've had that Ghost for over 20 years. I have a photo of the clip now, thanks to your video. I'll take it to the hardware store and ask if they have it.
Thanks, man. A fill tube that was sitting too far down the overflow tube was causing the tank to lose water and fill up over and over. Yours was the only video I had found that got to the problem. Good job! JB
