Hi Leah. I am unable to reach the packing nut because it is under the floorboard of my cabinet. Only the handle is exposed through a small cutout in the board. Can I remove the handle and then tighten the nut without causing a leak?

Jessica Rice says:

I am so happy I came across your video! My husband and I were ready to replace the shut off valve or considering calling a plumber. This simple fix saved the day! Thanks for your videos.

You rock! Thanks for helping out the first time home owner!

Majhoolification says:

If the valve doesn't have a packing knot, what to do ? 🙁

Muhammad Goldstein says:

You should have another wrench on the body of the valve, so the valve doesn't twist off of, or break, the supply pipe. Also, you should have the water turned off at the upstream shut-off valve, which in most cases will be the one for the whole house, just in case you do twist it off or break it. You don't want to start looking for it once you have a major leak. Know where it is and turn it off FIRST.

worked like a charm… awesome!!

Mike Pang says:

Leah, I had just changed out the toilet fill valve on my 17 year-old toilet. The replacement went just fine except that when I turned the water back on at the supply valve, the supply valve started to drip even though it was not dripping just a few minutes earlier and had never dripped like this. Thanks to this video, all is good! "Easy fix" indeed!! THANKS!

Wow, thank you so much. You are teaching me something while saving me money at the same time. The other day a friend came by and told me he would have to replace the valve to stop the leaking. Glad I didn't listen to him. You are awesome.

Thank you Leah. Had to turn off the water main and when I turned it back on it started to drip pretty steadily. I panicked cuz I don't have the $$ for a plumber. Tried your advice and it worked like a charm !! A million thanks !

manoj prakash says:

Water was running into the toilet tank. I noticed flapper was broken and it was unable to cover the opening to the toilet. I closed the shut-off valve but water was still coming into the tank. Water would stop coming into the tank when I pulled up on the float. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Did the trick… Thank you Leah!
