Secret Wood Bowl DIY

Secret Wood Bowl DIY

After making my version of the secret wood rings, I knew I wanted to try and scale it up!

This bowl is made from splintered walnut and polyester resin. I ended up making a very large blank and turning most of it away! While I’m more than pleased by the end result, I think I could have minimized the resin usage with a bit of planning…

Regardless, I ended up with a cool and unique bowl! I hope you enjoy this video. I know I enjoyed making it

I used this plan to build a kitchen cabinet for my wife [Link Here==https://plus.google.com/109305854848533008884/posts/NWPPQrpH9DV ]. I feel proud to have accomplished such a project which she have come to love so much. Thanks a lot for a collection as this. It is quite comprehensive.

Denise Painter says:

Hey Peter, I was thinking if you could wrap a small bowl in aluminum foil or plastic to use as a form, and then arrange your taller pieces around the edges, and cut shorter pieces to put in the middle. lay the bowl in the middle of the box on top of the shorter pieces to take up space and use less resin. I'm a real noob though so that might not work – what do you think? Would really cut down on resin waste if it worked, and cut machining time quite a bit too.

Mike Wright says:

Very cool dea😎👍

Hi Peter, Im Arely Figueroa, from Tijuana, Mexico.

I've never wrote a comment in your channel before but I think its about time! I love all of your projects, you're really awesome! And is really nice of you to share it. I did the HDPE block you've posted once for a class about recycling polymerers. They love it, but left me very ansious to do more woth wood and polymerers.

I want so much to learn from you, I wish I were nearer!! (And maybe if I were nearer you wouldnt need any help from me) Anyway, wish you the best, thank you for sharing all this.

If someday you could post a video presenting all or the most important tools you use, and how to use them, it would be great. I guess many more would appreciate it too and it would be easier to try and experiment something similar of what you share us

Regards!
Arely

Donald J. Trump says:

Nice cereal bowl.

Jf L says:

you should use two bowl for your blank..you fill the first one with some woods around the bowl and put the second bowl inside and fill around the bowl, after it dry you remove the bowl on top and the bottom and you have a bowl blank almost done and you save like 60% of your resine and save 50% turning time..

Ms Ally says:

Is it just me that he said Rosen as like a musical instrument because a rosin is for a bow on a violin 🎻

Tobias Reich says:

When putting resin into the box with the wallnut, wouldn't it be better to put the resin in the box and then stick the wood into it?

Angus Steven says:

Hello Peter! good afternoon from Mexico

Mattsmindmeld says:

Enis Turgut Yalçınkaya says:

Although it is good, it is a lot of waste. I would make a hollowish mold and pre-cut the wood

PandaWonka says:

would it work better to start the base by filling the mold with resin before adding the pieces of wood?

Amazing. I would have liked to see a better and closer display of the finished product.

Lila2cute says:

I kept closing my eyes so as to avoid the cutoffs from getting in my eyes lol. Great video!
