12'x24' DIY Shed Build (Part 9 – Homemade Double Doors)

12'x24' DIY Shed Build (Part 9 – Homemade Double Doors)

Welcome to part 9 of our shed build showing the homemade double doors. In this video we are building and installing our own double doors handcrafted to match the rest of the construction. We used fairly common shed door logic, I think, of locking one door in place with barrel bolts while the other door is free for daily use. They are both built from scratch using the same materials as the shed walls. Another first for me in terms of building or hanging any door, so I hope I got it close to right, and they last for a long time!

This will be a 12’x24′ wooden shed with a single slope metal roof and LP SmartSide siding.

I’ll try to summarize some of the construction stats/key points here:

FLOOR:
– 12′ x 24′
– 4′ x 4′ treated skid foundation
– 2″ x 8″ joists @ 16″ OC
– 3/4″ plywood subfloor

WALLS:
– 2″ x 4″ construction with double top plates
– (3) 3′ x 2′ sliding windows
– DIY double door – 59” x 80”
– 1/2″ OSB sheathing
– House wrap
– LP SmartSide paneling

ROOF:
– 16′ x 27′
– 1.5-in-12 pitch (minimum recommended by metal roof mfr), single slope
– 2″ x 8″ rafters @ 24″ OC
– 1/2″ plywood sheathing, with sheathing clips
– Synthetic roofing paper
– 29 gauge galvalume metal roofing panels (3′ x 16′ each)

The Upside of Downsizing says:

Building a set of doors was an ambitious project. Nailed it! The colors look so great in your videos too! Compliments to Pam dor thise beautiful bold colors!

deserthorizons says:

Love the color.!! I had to talk the wife into painting 2 walls in our bedroom that color.. She didn't think it possible,, but she loved it afterwards.. .. Doors are looking good,, should last longer than you will need.. .. don't you hate it when you forget words that were '"right there'" a second ago.?.. there is a word for that.,,,, can't remember what it is though..

Tommy says:

Now that's how you build a shed double door.😉👍
That handle is sweet. I wish I had seen something like that before I did mine.😞
Well done on the build Sir!

Yeah!! Another project DONE!! Looks lovely 😊

High Desert Homestead says:

You are defiantly building a hoss of a door. you are building the whole building it strong enough to withstand a hurricane force wind. Get'er done brother.

High Desert Homestead says:

It is always better to run a solid board across the top of the door on the frame. The OSB will help but if you run a top board all the way across it will stabilize your door.
